In 1996 he became the 14th player to break the 50 home run barrier, and
did so in fewer at bats than anyone in Major League history. He is the only
player ever to hit 50 or more home runs in less than 140 games.
On 20 Aug 98 McGwire became the first player in history to hit 50 home
runs in three consecutive seasons.
